The evidence behind the answer

Your plan, tested on every market Britain has actually had.

Every 30-year retirement start since 1871, drawn at once: £100 of buying power in a balanced mix. The worst start merely broke even; the best made 15 times. The planner runs yours against all of them — plus replays of 1973, 2000 and 2008.

0.5×1×2×4×8× median 2.9× worst (1891) 0.9× best (1975) 15× 0 30 years held

Couples, inheritance tax and your retirement cash-flow in one plan

No free UK tool does all three. Gifts, the seven-year clocks, the £2m taper and pensions in the estate from April 2027 sit inside the same year-by-year projection as your retirement income.

Checked figures stay distinct from estimates

The planner shows which groups you have reviewed, when the plan was last saved, and which results still depend on starting estimates.

Your figures stay in your browser. Nothing is sent anywhere; there is nothing to sell you and no adviser waiting at the end.

How it works, and what it is not

A year-by-year cash-flow for each person: earnings until retirement, state pension from state pension age, other income and pension drawdown; income tax at 2026-27 rates with thresholds frozen to 2031; living costs, mortgage capital and gifts out; surplus saved, shortfalls from savings then pensions. Then the estate against the nil-rate bands as they will stand, pensions included from April 2027. Investment returns come from a dated capital-market table, overridden by today's gilt yields; history from the Jordà-Schularick-Taylor UK series 1871–2020; mortality from ONS-fitted life tables.
