Every gilt the government has in issue — 71 conventional and 34 index-linked — on one page, in maturity order, with the same indicative figures for each: the yield you would lock in at today's curve, and an estimate of how its market price responds when yields rise (its duration). These are dated facts from the Debt Management Office's register and the Bank of England's curves, not a selection and not a pick; the prices are worked out from the curves, so your platform's quote will sit a few pence either side. Tap a gilt for its workings. The switches add the index-linked gilts (real yield and breakeven inflation), the yield after tax, and the detail columns (coupon, clean price, duration, ISIN).
The price-fall estimate uses a 100 basis-point rise: 1.00 percentage point, such as 4.23% to 5.23%. It is a duration estimate of an interim market-price move; holding the gilt to maturity avoids selling at that price.

Duration: the money-weighted average time to the payments is 23.27 years; modified duration 23.27 ÷ (1 + 5.63%/2) = 22.64, so a 1-point rise in yields cuts the price about 22.6%: £2263.74 on £10,000 (first-order; convexity softens a large move). After tax: of the return to maturity per £100, £53.44 is coupon (taxed as savings income) and £74.15 is the gain from £25.85 to £100 (exempt from capital gains tax). Taxing only the coupons, the net redemption yield is 5.01% at 20%, 4.43% at 40% and 4.28% at 45%; the personal savings allowance is not applied. | |||||||||||
How to read it
- Indicative figures computed from the curves, not dealer quotes: a gilt's traded price can sit a few pence either side. Yields use the semi-annual convention platforms quote.
- After-tax yields tax every coupon at the band and leave the gain to £100 untouched (gilts are exempt from capital gains tax); the personal savings allowance and the starting rate for savings are not applied, and savings income is taxed at UK-wide rates for Scottish taxpayers too.
- Fall per £10,000 is modified duration × a 1-point rise, first-order; for index-linked gilts it is a rise in real yields.
- Index-linked cash prices apply the register-date index ratio; no UK index-linked gilt has a deflation floor, under either design.
- Index-linked gilts promise buying power, not pounds: the real yield is the return above RPI inflation, and the breakeven is the inflation at which the nearest conventional gilt would have done as well. The 8-month-lag tag marks the pre-2005 design; CPIH from 2030 marks gilts whose uplift follows CPIH once the RPI is aligned with it in February 2030.
- A gilt ladder — one gilt maturing in each year you need money — is the usual way to use this list; the ladder calculator prices one off the same curve, and the guide explains the tax.
